Us & Them

The tactic of division, utilized across the political spectrum, has polarized our country in a way detrimental to democracy itself. As such, this installation creates a contemplative experience for viewers to reflect on the notion of “us” and “them” while observing the difference between the reflection of ourselves, and the view of the other side.  Installed at YBCA Public Square.

The words “US” and “THEM”, made out of “I Voted” stickers, were applied to opposite sides of mirrored blinds. When the blinds are closed, viewers on each side can only see their distorted reflections. When the blinds are opened, viewers can see those on the other side and interact with them.
